Michael Mena to Perform Piano Book I Graduation Concert
3 pm – Saturday, December 8, 2007

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The announcement of Michael Mena’s Piano Book I graduation has been added to Ashling O’Neill’s previously announced Violin Book I graduation concert. All Academy students and their families are encouraged to attend one or both of these concerts.

Ashling performs her Violin Book I concert at 3 PM on Saturday, November 24th (Thanksgiving weekend). Because Thanksgiving is a time when many families, who are not traveling out of town for the holiday, are visited by relatives and friends from out of town, this concert gives Academy members an opportunity to invite family and friends who may not be able to otherwise attend any of the concerts that we give during the rest of the year. There will be no classes on November 24. This graduation concert will substitute for classes normally held on that day.

Michael performs his Piano Book I concert at 3 PM on Saturday, December 8th. Classes will be held as usual on that day.

Ø       All Academy violin and piano students are invited to perform at these concerts, including students who are at the beginning stage of study and who can demonstrate exercises that we use for beginning study.

Ø       Those who will attend either or both of these concerts need to sign the signup sheet posted at the Academy for the concert they will attend.

Ø       Students who perform are required to wear concert dress. Students who attend but who are not ready to perform should also wear concert dress so that they can be in the group photo to be taken at the end of the concert.  (See, ‘Concert Dress’ on reverse side).

Ø       There will be no classes on November 24. This graduation concert will substitute for classes normally held on that day.

METRONOMES

We recommend that students use a metronome from the time when they begin practicing their early exercises and pieces.  There are many metronomes on the market with various options and features to choose from. Those who have electronic keyboards will likely find a metronome as a built in feature. There is an online or virtual metronome, a metronome that you can use at no cost and play through your computer's speakers that can be found at http://www.metronomeonline.com/

Of the metronomes that are sold separately, some do not produce an adequate sound and many are more complicated than they need to be.

We use the Wittner MT-50 Quartz Metronome in class and recommend this easy-to-use, basic model for home use. At the time of this writing (November 17, 2007), this model is offered online from Tuners and Metronomes.com at the page, http://www.tunersandmetronomes.com/Wittner-MT-50-Quartz-Metronome_p_2-17.html
