In this section, there are selected secondary materials, books written by those who worked with Suzuki, studied at the Suzuki's Talent Education Institute, or otherwise received training in Suzuki Method studies. While there are some excellent secondary source reference books, others that otherwise may have some degree of merit can also contain ideas that are not Suzuki's and even ideas that are contrary to Suzuki's approach as he defined it.
To add to this, authors of secondary material too often neglect to identify which ideas originate with the author and which are Suzuki's. This presents a problem to any reader without the background to sort it all out. Namely, readers may think that they are reading about the Suzuki Method as Suzuki defined it, when in fact they are getting a versions of the method from authors whose training, expertise, or interpretation may be far less than ideal. The same sort of thing has caused problems in the training of Suzuki teachers, with unfortunate consequences. Some so-called "Suzuki Method teachers" have been trained without the benefit of an adequate knowledge of Suzuki's Suzuki method, and the standard of teaching has suffered.
On the other hand, there are secondary resource books that are truly instructive and can help to clarify Suzuki's teachings. These are the books that are included in this section of the bookstore. Editorial reviews will be added that can help the reader identify what these references can offer.
Carroll Morris's book, "Suzuki Parents Diary : Or How I Survived My First 10,000 Twinkles", has been included in this collection, not because it is particularly important pedagogically, but it brings some good natured levity to the subject of being the parent of a Suzuki student. Many will smile and nod their heads when reading this one. A fun book that makes a great gift for "Suzuki parents".
